canterbury tales and middle english

MIDDLE ENGLISH and THE CANTERBURY TALES

In this week, we learnt features of the middle ages also dwelled on the major points in mediaval period. I want to mention important point which I learned at this lesson.
First of all, I want to speak of the middle Ages. Middle Ages is a period between the 5th and 14th centuries. Generally, Scholastic thought dominated in this period so it is known as a dark period. These are the prime events of this period:

The Decline of feudalism ( 10th - century)
Feudalism started to subversion due to  economic and trade factors in 10th century
The Decline and the corruption in the church
decreased confidence in the church
         The Blackdeath (1348)
The population declined due to belackdeath
         The Peasants’ Revolt (1381)
         The Norman Conquest ( 11th-century)
         -French culture came to England.
-French language became the official language.
-Effect of french culture started in english literature.

In medieval period, every person latch on to the king blessedly also king is served by all people becuse he is  the authority. Also in this period we can see feudalism. Feudalism, was a hierarchical system. In this system, people were given land  and worked and fought for them in return. King is at the top of this system. But later on, Feudalism and Peasant’s Revolt declined. As a result of this decline, capitalism started to come up with the selling of  aristocracy’s land because the land was bought by merchants and workers demanded wages. This system based on capital Money so this caused to capitalism.
Literature in middle ages, is nonpersonal. Work is more important than author so most of the Works were anonymous. Also Latin and French influenced the English literature. The canterbury tales are  one of these works.
The Canterbury Tales  is a collection of some stories which are told by  a group of pilgrims from Southwark to Canterbury. It includes twenty four different tales. Geoffrey Chaucer canterbury tales are written in middle ages with using rhymed and metered, wide vocabulary, clever phrases and many dialects. Canterbury tales are formed a lot of tales which are told by pilgrims. Also this tales have a lot of character which symbolize various people and varios things in public like the wife of  bath, the pordoner, the miller, the prioress, the monk, the friar, the summoner, the host, the parson, the squire, the clerk etc..
We can learn a lot of things from this work about english literature and old social-economic situation  so it has a great important in our lives.
